About this role

This Graphic Designer - Infographic Specialist role creates high-quality, accurate, and creative artwork that meets client needs and fulfills editorial responsibilities. You will produce infographics, charts, and maps that supplement editorial stories, making complex information visually clear and engaging.

Day-to-day work includes laying out newspaper pages using Adobe InDesign and collaborating with reporters and editors to gain deeper insight into stories. You will analyze and interpret news to create original graphics that visually support editorial content, all while meeting tight production deadlines.

This onsite role is based at our Pflugerville HQ and supports our Cedar Park, Georgetown, and Bastrop teams. You will also serve as backup to the Advertising Specialist, working with the sales team to produce timely advertisements that meet client needs.

Community Impact Newspaper reaches two million mailboxes each month, offering meaningful work at a top news organization. This position provides a salary of $45,000 annually with room to grow based on experience, plus comprehensive benefits and paid time off.

Requirements

  • Ability to learn industry-specific software, including Content Management Systems.
  • Familiarity working within corporate design guidelines.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign and other Adobe Creative Suite programs.
  • Ability to work onsite at the Pflugerville HQ and support multiple regional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lay out newspaper pages using Adobe InDesign, following company design guidelines, processes, and procedures.
  • Analyze and interpret news to create accurate and original graphics, charts, and maps that visually support editorial stories.
  • Collaborate with reporters and editors to gain further insight and understanding of stories.
  • Meet editorial deadlines for daily production, proofing, and final output.
  • Prepare and save online paper archives and editorial graphics to meet web deadlines at the end of each month's production.
  • Serve as backup to the Advertising Specialist to collaborate with the sales team on timely, effective advertisements.
  • Ensure all in-paper advertisements and graphics are properly prepared for 4-color press output and web ads are in the correct digital format.
  • Maintain awareness of current design trends and a working knowledge of the latest industry software.
